Let's Raise the Barn

TRACTOR Food & Farms Capital Campaign
We've reached 68% of our goal!

What We're Building

New farmers! New customers! We’re gonna need a bigger barn!

Food and farming in the Toe River region is growing, and it’s time for TRACTOR Food & Farms to grow with it. With your help, we hope to raise $1.6M to acquire and operationalize our forever home in Spruce Pine, NC, from where we’ll continue to build a stronger, more equitable food system. Our facility will look a lot like our old one, except it will be ours! Here’s a few things to look forward to:

Warehouse

Our new facility features a climate-controlled 7,200 sq ft warehouse equipped with a mezzanine, which will be packed to the brim with the best fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, dairy and shelf-stable goods these mountains have to offer!

Warehouse

Cold Storage

Keeping our produce fresh is a top priority. It holds in all that flavor from the cool mountain nights, and the vitamins and minerals from our rich soils.

Cold Storage

Even Colder Storage

We sold more meat in 2022 than the past 9 years combined. Even if a rancher could complain, they wouldn’t! We’re planning a new walk-in-freezer to keep more local meats in our inventory.

Even Colder Storage

Farmer Drive Through

Farmers can now pull through the warehouse for delivery. A dry farmer is a happy farmer indeed, as long as the fields aren’t!

Wash Stations

We’re planning shared-use produce washing stations that meet the highest standards of food safety. Using Spruce Pine municipal water, farmers won’t need to pay for on-farm water quality tests.

Grading & Packing Lines

For farmers, food pantries, gardens or anyone who needs a place to pack food and essentials for our community. We packed and distributed over 15,000 local food shares in 2022 alone. That’s a lot of suppers!

Reusable Bins & Totes

A farmer favorite! Our farmers save around $50 everytime they use our reusable bulk bins, and around $4 every time they use one of our totes. TRACTOR farmers saved an estimated $28k in packaging using this service last year.

Offices

Never take a dry, warm place to work for granted. After working from an old bus and an office that liked to take on water for the past few years, TRACTOR employees are ready to host our community with some level of comfort. You’ll certainly see more smiles through the winter!

Conference Room

No more shivering in a cold warehouse while we’re talking food and farming. Farmer workshops and community meetings–all around the dinner table. We’ve always been a happy family, but now we’ll be a warm one too.

Conference Room

Event Space

Our new facility boasts a massive, acre parking area which has farmers market, craft sale and food truck rodeo written all over it. Pickup your Farefield bag and enjoy the festivities!

Room to Grow

TRACTOR services have grown an average of 30% every year since 2020. This 10,630 sq ft building and 2 acre property offers plenty of space for TRACTOR to plow ahead!

Why You Should Donate

Rural access to fresh, healthy food is slipping away, as is rural agricultural communities’ ability to raise those foods. TRACTOR serves as a unique connector across the local food chain, creating economic opportunities and working to ensure that all community members have equitable access to local and healthy food.

Securing a facility equipped for receiving community-grown foods is essential for the health and vibrancy of our farms, our food, our families, and our future!
